My Garden Journal: week of February 12, 2024

Continuing with the garden updates, no new seeds were started this week but I finally went out to the backyard to do some stuff out there. Here’s the recap of the week.

Seedling update

Tomatoes

They are growing strong and early in the week it was time to thin them to one seedling per cell.

Hibiscus Roselle

This was the great surprise of the week, the sprouted within a few days and they are growing really fast, the cotyledons look still great and the first true leaves have started showing up. These have also been thinned, interesting enough, one of the trays didn’t produce anything so maybe I missed it, so I added a few seeds and they already sprouted.

Broccoli Rabe

First true leaves are out and they seem to be a bit leggy, I am not concerned, these aren’t fruiting plants so the lights that I have should work well.

Onions and Shallots

I have started thinking that using those small fruit containers for them wasn’t the best idea, anyway I will stick to it and continue using them this time, they are growing and I may take them to the raise beds in a month so it should all turn out well.

What else is happening in the garden?

Not much, other than refreshing the strawberry planter box and removing some weeds. I am happy that the fruit trees have started waking up and there are a few flower buds.

I am also planning to stop by the nursery to get a few more fruit tress, I will post about them soon.
